Inspired by the Mediterranean

This pendant has the colours of the Mediterranean Sea running through the whole design. The turquoise crackle glaze covers the outside of the pendant, while the swirl in the centre is finished with white glaze. The contrast between the two gives the piece a completely different look from the first pendant in the collection.

The ceramic design

The circular ceramic pendant features a swirl design with white glaze inside the swirl and turquoise crackle glaze around it. The crackled surface adds texture and makes the turquoise look almost like the surface of the sea.

Gold luster details

The gold luster adds delicate metallic details to the ceramic. It is a specialised ceramic medium that requires an additional kiln firing, so it is not a finish I use casually. For this collection, I wanted the gold to complement the turquoise and white without taking away from the ceramic itself.

The finishing details

For this pendant, I chose a very thin gold plated stainless steel chain to keep the overall look light and delicate.

The second row is made with light blue organza ribbon. For the third row, I used square turquoise beads with small rusty gold spacers. The spacers have very subtle hints of turquoise, which tie them back to the colours of the ceramic pendant.

Made in small quantities

This pendant is part of my first limited edition ceramic jewellery collection. Each piece is handmade in Malta and goes through three kiln firings. Small variations in the glaze, crackle effect and gold luster are part of the handmade process.
