Creating My Gold Luster Ceramic Collection
This collection started with three colours: turquoise, white and gold.
I wanted to create a group of pieces inspired by the Mediterranean Sea without using obvious seaside motifs. Instead, I focused on the colours, surface details and organic shapes that remind me of the Mediterranean.
The result is a small collection of handmade ceramics in Malta: two ceramic dishes, a small tea cup with a matching saucer, and a ceramic pendant. More pieces to come!
Turquoise, White and Gold
The main colour throughout the collection is a turquoise crackle low-fire glaze. I combined it with white glaze and bright liquid gold luster.
The gold is used as a decorative detail rather than covering large areas. Depending on the piece, it appears around a rim, as small dots, or as a curved line.
The combination of turquoise, white and gold gives the collection a consistent visual identity while allowing each piece to have its own shape and design.
Exploring Carved and Textured Surfaces
I wanted the collection to have an organic, slightly imperfect feel, using carved grooves, irregular lines and textured surfaces.
The carved areas make the turquoise crackle glaze appear darker and more blue, adding depth to the surface. Organic shapes and flowing lines give the designs a sense of movement, while the white glaze creates contrast.
Bright gold luster is used as a subtle finishing detail through fine lines, rims and small dots.
One Collection, More to Come
This is the beginning of the Gold Luster Collection, with more pieces planned in the future. I also want to experiment with different colour combinations while keeping the same focus on organic shapes, surface details and bright gold luster.
Handmade Ceramics and Gifts from Malta
The Gold Luster Collection is handmade in Malta by SB Art Story, with each piece made individually through several stages of shaping, glazing and firing. These ceramics can make thoughtful gifts in Malta or a special gift from Malta for someone who appreciates handmade art and functional ceramics. More pieces will be added to the collection as I continue experimenting with new forms, textures and colour combinations.
Only one of each design is available.
